Modern Production

Starting with optimal irrigation and storage, the new blockbaw saw, the computer-controlled stainless steel steaming pits, state-of-the-art slicers with vacuum table up to the clipping line with highly qualified personnel, we guarantee maximum yield.

Veeners

Since 1948 we produce veneers. Since 1974 exclusively custom cutting, since 1997 also in our plant in Celje. We produce all common cutting thicknesses, also up to 5.00mm;

All lengths up to a maximum of 5.30m.
All woods from apple to ziricote.
State-of-the-art technology, computer controlled pits, vacuum table, press dryers, presses, etc.

Colors

Since 2015, we have been offering unique coloring for your veneer produced in our company or external veneers. The minimum quantity for this is approx. 1500m2 with a maximum length of 4m. On request, lengths up to 5.2m can also be processed.

Silver oak – we like to finish your (oak) veneers in many different nuances.
Oak bronze – treated exclusively with water and heat, oak veneer gets this wonderfully warm hue.

Cogeneration of heat

Since 2008, we have been operating a modern cogeneration system, exclusively fired with residues from the production and purchased biomass.

20.5 MW installed thermal power.
6.75 MW installed electrical power.
District heating for about 1000 households.

History

The company Merkscha was founded 1948 by Otto Merkscha, who emigrated after World War II from Slovenske Konjice to Austria. Initially, we produced our own logs. After the death of Otto Merkscha, his wife Vida took over the business, modernized the production and changed the business to a exclusively custom cutting veneer mill in 1974. In 1996, contrary to all advice, she bought LI Savinja in bankruptcy in Celje and generally overhauled the factory, laying the foundation for its great success.
